Inuvungha, Chantal. Growing up I didn't learn much about my family history due to my ananak experiencing a lot of family and personal trauma due to colonization. Part of our family healing process is to start storytelling about the past and re-teaching our traditions that colonizers deemed "bad". Tattoos are one of those traditions. Letting someone break your skin and share stories with them is such an intimate act and I'm proud to share my family stories with others and reclaim our past.
